The sole purpose of Bike Wales is to promote the benefits of cycling and to encourage exploration of Wales by providing readers online access to cycling events, route maps, and reviews. Now get out there and have fun!



August 2017
Cycle Across the Beacons Tour

This will be a multi-day event for experienced cyclists and campers. Some of the highlights include the M&B Canal, Carreg Cennen Castle and Dinefwr Castle. The first 2 days we'll head north along the canal turning west at Brecon and then following the new NCN route; Cycle Across the Beacons to Llandeilo. The last two days we'll head back over a combination of quiet roads and traffic-free cycle routes (NCN 437 & 46) across the Heads of the Valleys before joining NCN 492 at Brynmawr and back to the start in Pontypool.

Cost of Event: Each rider will cover costs of their food and accommodations.

Newport Family Cycling Festival

Come join the second annaual event for two days celebrating all things cycling. They've led rides, bmx stunt bike shows, pedal powered arts & crafts, cycle proficiency training for kids, a festival park full of stalls, and more! Check back as the details unfold...

Winding House Heritage Ride

Join me for a ride through the Rhymney Valley up to the see the Winding Engine Run. The ride will follow NCN 468 from Hengoed Train Station through Pengam and Bargoed to the museum in New Tredegar where we'll have coffee and/or lunch before watching the big wheel turn at noon. There will also be the option of cycling further up to Rhymney afterwards just to get a few more miles in the saddle.

Cordell Country Heritage Ride

This is a fabulous ride focusing on the landscapes and history of the Southeast Valleys of Wales paying particular attention to Industrial Heritage. This will be a led ride for families (children 12+) with experience cycling longer distances. Most of the ride will be on traffic-free cycle paths, however there will be several short sections on quiet roads. It will be a long day, so come prepared with plenty of snacks, water, and your water-proofs!

The focus of the ride will be to visit six unique gardens whilst promoting the partnership between Parkinson' UK and the National Garden scheme. Sustrans Summer Solstice Dawn Ride

A dawn ride leaving Pontypool town onto NCN 492 and climbing steadily up through the Afon Llwyd Valley, above Abersychan, Cwm Avon and rising above Blaenavon to pause at the routes highest point and watch the sun rise above the Severn Estuary announcing that the Solstice, the longest day, has arrived.

NOTE: This will be a led group ride sponsored and marshalled by Sustrans trained volunteers. All cycle riders should be prepared with front and rear lights, appropriate clothing, and hydration.
